about me

hi, I'm andrew.

i'm an oakland based artist working to amplify the sonic & somatic echoes of black queer joy and resistance.

these are some things about me:

  • i host an online radio show called pleasure club with 150+ episodes, where i play music, meditate on visions of utopia in music/art, & tell stories about black and queer history.
  • i dj, mostly 90s house and regional club music like footwork and jersey club, under the name wayward. i've played all around the bay area at venues like f8 and el rio, as well as renegades across the west coast. (reach out to book me!)
  • i perform site-specific dance works & make video art inspired by my experience as a ghanaian american & black queer organizer. I'm also active in dance communities around the bay
  • i produce audio collages from archived sounds throughout the black diaspora. i'm learning audio production now with a goal of performing live ambient music with real time field recordings & would love to collaborate with folks on that!
  • i build artistic community throughout the bay, writing up weekly roundups on diy arts events, making guides on how to plug into the diy arts and club scene, helping organize renegade parties like mutant fest, and hosting organizing and arts events at my co-op
  • i write occasionally about black studies, law, art, music & my personal travels
  • i make lists of my favorite art, music, writing, films, and places to run, and also post about them on rateyourmusic, goodreads, and letterboxd.
  • i work on kooky immersive art experiences that i've installed at festivals and other spaces in the bay
  • i work as a lawyer and organizer in my other life, fighting against ice detention, homeless sweeps, & racial discrimination in the criminal legal system.

i'd love to get in touch if you want to talk djing or bay area art/music/organizing community! Feel free to reach out on instagram or by email. you can also check out my linktree or soundcloud.
